Sunrise on the Sea

A star-speckled darkness releases its grip
just minutes before a coral red glow emerges;
pushing itself up above the eastern horizon.
The waves now relaxing as the lower tide advances. Silhouettes appearing more prominent;
the jetty, the tethered boat now visible
Arrays of shells find themselves abandoned,
stranded on the shoreline;
each given up by last night’s sea.
Crabs and crustacean scamper out of gull’s sight.
Aerial cawing serenades the crescendo of waves
that pound endlessly against the weathered shoreline. Yesterday has been washed away.
The warmth of the sun’s fire saturates the soul.
A new day has disembarked at the dock.
